Green Flag Awards
Environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy today revealed the 280 sites that have received the internationally renowned Green Flag Award and Green Flag Community Award, and we are thrilled to announce that Parc Bryn Bach is amongst them.
The Green Flag Award recognises our environmental efforts, excellent visitor facilities, and community involvement.
Parc Bryn Bach is a rich and vibrant designated local nature reserve with a stunning freshwater lake at the heart of over 360 acres of parkland. Visitors are encouraged to explore the park through a network of walking and cycling trails, and to experience a different perspective on our beautiful views through a variety of water-based activities on the lake.
Phill Sykes, director of operations at Aneurin Leisure said: “We feel honoured to once again receive Green Flag Awards for one of our incredible parks again this year. Parc Bryn Bach is hugely popular with our local communities and visitors from all over south Wales. It’s a testament to the dedication and hard work of our staff, partner organisations and community volunteers, all of whom work tirelessly all year round to maintain and improve our diverse local nature reserve.”
Now in its third decade, the Green Flag Award recognises well-managed parks and green spaces in 20 countries around the world.
In Wales, the awards scheme is run by Keep Wales Tidy. Lucy Prisk, Green Flag Coordinator for Keep Wales Tidy said: “Free access to safe, high quality green space has never been more important. Our award-winning sites play a vital role in people’s mental and physical well-being, providing a haven for communities to come together, relax and enjoy nature. News that 280 parks and green spaces in Wales have achieved Green Flag Awards is testament to the hard work of hundreds of staff and volunteers. We’re delighted to be able to celebrate their success on the world stage.”
Alongside Parc Bryn Bach, eight other Discovery Gateway sites in the Valleys Regional Parks have also won Green Flag Awards - congratulations to Bryngarw Country Park, Dare Valley Country Park, Parc Slip, Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Cyfarthfa Park, Parc Bryn Bach, Cwmcarn Forest, Parc Peanallta and Llyn Llech Owain.
