Stand Up Paddle Boarding Skills Scheme
Each section is designed for you to gain knowledge and the understanding to paddle to your chosen environment.
Sheltered Water
The sheltered water scheme has been designed to establish a level of competence to become a Stand-Up Paddleboard instructor operating in sheltered water, small lakes and sheltered bays. The scheme is aimed at new comers to the paddleboard coaching scheme. Upon completion participants should have gained all the practical and theoretical knowledge to attend a Foundation Course in order to coach SUP to beginners.
Exposed Water
The Exposed Water scheme has been designed to leave candidates feeling confident with the knowledge and skills to manage groups, plan and operate journeys and coach and lead clients in a range of open water environments.
Moving Water
An essential scheme for those ready to run rivers. The scheme covers hydrology, breaking in and out, surfing, hazard identification, equipment selection, leadership ideas and current ussues surrounding white water in your area. We will also look at the use of guidebooks and navigation.

WSA SUP Safety & Rescue

Stand Up Paddle Instructor (Foundation Level) £100

Duration – 1 day
WSA regards safety and rescue skills as essential disciplines that all SUP instructors must understand and be able to demonstrate competency in rescue techniques. This one day course is designed to teach the fundamental rescue skills and safety knowledge for aspiring SUP instructors.

WSA SUP Foundation Instructor
Pre-Requisites: WSA Rescue, First Aid, or recognised lifeguarding qualification.
Member of WSA Ability: Paddle effectively in light winds upwind, across wind and downwind; use two types of turns effectively.
Remit: Sheltered Water (small lakes, sheltered bays, no flow rivers, canals)
Assessment Criteria: Coaching session, personal ability and Workbook Information Technology Solutions.
The Foundation Coach course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to safely introduce Stand Up Paddle Boarding to beginners wishing to try and develop their SUP skills in a sheltered water environment. You will be educated in various bylaws and legislation that govern paddle sports in your area / country.
You will learn essential safety information; gain knowledge of equipment, group management and the coaching skills to effectively get students paddling. Additional knowledge will include fault finding and correction with a good understanding of technique. You will leave the course being able to plan sessions and confidently deliver them working within the structure of a school or centre. Those students who do not meet the desired standard will if appropriate be offered assistant coach status allowing persons to develop under other qualified coaches as well as assisting in centres and schools. Reassessment can be applied for.

WSA Adventure Guide SUP Instructor

Duration – 2 days Training & 1 day Assessment (assessment can be booked at a later date)
The WSA Adventure guide is a leadership award that will equip you to coach, lead or guide in open water, hazardous environments. You will gain knowledge in various environments suitable for the remit of the award, safety in these environments and leadership strategies.
Prior to attending this course you must have attended the WSA Foundation course and the WSA SUP Safety and Rescue course.
